Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers dug too deep a whole at LoanMart Field on Tuesday and fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-3. The loss meant a split of the four-game series for the clubs heading into a league-wide off day Wednesday.

The Quakes got to Inland Empire starter Jeremy Rhoades in the first as he walked the leadoff batter Erick Mejia on four pitches. Tim Locastro followed with a bunt single and they both scored on Devan Ahart's double making it 2-0 before an out was recorded. The Quakes added one in the second and another in the fourth on Julian Leon's homer making it 4-0. Rancho Cucamonga (35-24) tacked on two more in the fifth highlighted by Yusniel Diaz' RBI single. Rhoades allowed six runs on ten hits taking the loss and falling to 1-7 this season.

Josh Sborz held the Sixers down for five shutout innings on the mound for the Quakes. The former University of Virginia star allowed a hit and a walk in five innings with four Ks on only 53 pitches to improve to 5-3.

Inland Empire (20-39) got a run in the eighth when Wade Wass doubled and eventually scored on reliever Luis DePaula's balk. The run meant that the Sixers remain only one of two teams in the league that have not been shutout in 2016. The 66ers added a pair in the ninth when Hutton Moyer notched a RBI single and Taylor Ward's RBI groundout closed the gap to 7-3 but could get no closer. Angels' shortstop Andrelton Simmons went 0-3 in an injury rehab appearance.

The Sixers open a series versus High Desert on Thursday at San Manuel Stadium beginning at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
