San Jose Giants News Release

SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Giants were swept in a four-game series by the Bakersfield Blaze following a 7-3 loss on Tuesday evening at Municipal Stadium. Bakersfield never trailed in the contest en route to picking-up their seventh consecutive victory overall. The Giants have now lost a season-high four in a row and finished their season-high 11-game homestand with a 5-6 record.

With the loss, San Jose (33-25) fell to four games behind Visalia (37-21) for first place in the first half North Division race. 12 games remain in the half.

Steven Duggar (2-for-4, HR, RBI) homered as part of a two-hit game to lead the way at the plate. Ty Ross (2-for-4) added a pair of singles while Cristian Paulino (1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) drove home two runs.

The Blaze took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Giants starter D.J. Snelten balked home a run with two outs. Bakersfield then plated two more runs in the fourth to push their advantage to 3-0. A leadoff walk to Chantz Mack and a two-out walk to Tyler Marlette put two runners on base for the Blaze. Austin Wilson then tripled into the right field corner scoring both runs for a 3-0 cushion.

San Jose managed four hits - all singles - over the first three innings against Bakersfield starter Tyler Pike, but were unable to score. The Giants then broke through with two runs in the fourth to trim the Blaze lead to 3-2. Back-to-back singles from Jose Vizcaino, Jr. and Daniel Carbonell started the inning. After Ross flied out, Paulino stepped to the plate and doubled down the left field line. The hit scored both Vizcaino and Carbonell to make the score 3-2. A wild pitch then moved to Paulino to third, but he was stranded there when Robbie Garvey and Duggar both popped out.

Bakersfield then responded with a three-run top of the fifth against Snelten to take control of the game. Two singles and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with one out before Mack grounded a two-RBI single down the left field line. Kyle Petty then singled up the middle to score another run for a 6-2 Blaze advantage.

San Jose's final tally of the night came in the bottom of the seventh when Duggar blasted a one-out solo homer to right center. The home run, Duggar's ninth of the season, brought the Giants to within 6-3.

Bakersfield though answered in the eighth facing reliever Pat Young as Wilson drew a two-out walk, Joe DeCarlo singled and then Daniel Torres delivered an RBI single to make it 7-3.

Issac Sanchez (2-1) picked-up the win out of the Blaze bullpen after tossing three innings with one run and two hits allowed. Sanchez pitched scoreless fifth and sixth innings before yielding Duggar's homer in the seventh. Aaron Brooks then pitched around a two-out walk and a Ross single in the eighth before Kyle Schepel worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close it out.

Snelten (3-5) suffered the loss for San Jose after allowing a season-high six runs (all earned) on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out three.
