
Cal League All Stars Announced

Oxnard, CA - The California League is proud to announce the 2016 All-Stars. The roster is made up of 22 active players with at least one representative being selected from each Cal League team.
The 2016 California/Carolina League All-Star Game will be played in Lake Elsinore at the Diamond, the home of the Lake Elsinore Storm. Baseball's top prospects, representing 18 Major League teams and 18 Minor League affiliates, will descend upon The Diamond on June 21 as two of the nation's elite Class-A Advanced leagues matchup in the 20th California-Carolina League All-Star Game. The California League will look to make it three in a row. The record for the series is currently in favor of the Cal League at 9-8-2.
Before the game, the Cal League will honor certain members of its inaugural Hall of Fame Class. Rickey Henderson, Gary Sheffield, Jose Cruz Jr, and Lake Elsinore Storm Coach, Xavier Nady will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Managing the team is Lance Burkhart, the manager for the host team Storm. Burkhart is in his first season managing the Storm. The former 15th
rounder for the Montreal Expos will have his pitching coach, Glendon Rusch, hitting coach, Xavier
Nady, and assistant coach, Mike McCoy. Also part of the staff is trainer, Ricky Huerta and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Scott Cline.
Highlighting the team is Bakersfield Blaze First Baseman, Kyle Petty. Petty is tied for 1st
in Minor League Baseball in hits
with 79, 15th
in average at .341, tied for 8th
in doubles with 19, and 5th
in total bases with 122. High Desert Mavericks
Second Baseman, Travis Demeritte will provide some power to the lineup. He is currently tied for 5th
in Minor League
Baseball in HRs with 14, and 3rd
in Runs scored with 47.
If the Cal League gets the lead late in the game, Burkhart might turn to San Jose Giants pitcher Rodolfo Martinez who leads Minor League Baseball in saves with 16. Sam Howard (Modesto Nuts) or Tyler Herb (Bakersfield Blaze) should provide a solid outing on the mound as they are among Minor League Baseball's leaders in Strikeouts with 73 and 70 respectively.
Voting for the All Star Team consists of each team submitting 3 ballots with at least 1 ballot coming from the Field Manager. The complete roster is below.
About the Cal League: The California League was founded in 1941 by a combination of Major League and Pacific Coast League clubs. The League currently has 10 teams and plays a 140-game season starting in April with the regular season wrapping up on Labor Day. Over the years, the California League has produced 19 Hall of Famers, 16 MVP winners, 19 CY Young recipients, and has 32 Rookie of the Year awards. The California League has become the premier Class "A" League in Minor League Baseball.
