Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Josh Sborz turned in five innings of shutout baseball, as the Quakes salvaged a split of their four-game series with Inland Empire, downing the 66ers by a final of 7-3 on Tuesday night at LoanMart Field.
The win for Rancho caps a disappointing home stand at just 3-4, but with just 11 games left in the first half, it also pulls them to within one game of first-place High Desert, who dropped a 9-1 decision at Lake Elsinore on Tuesday night.
Sborz allowed just one hit and one walk over his five frames, striking out four in earning the win. The Rancho bullpen backed up Sborz (5-3) with four solid innings of work, as Kevin Brown, Chris Anderson and Luis De Paula combined to llow just one run on three hits over their four frames.
Rancho's offense was led by Tim Locastro, who also made a number of fine plays defensively, in his first start of his professional career in center field. Locastro went 3-for-4 with a run scored and was one of three Quakes to record a multi-hit game.
Rancho got on the board in the first inning, as Devan Ahart doubled home a pair to put the Quakes up 2-0.
In the second, Erick Mejia legged out a two-out infield single, scoring Michael Ahmed to make it 3-0 against Inland Empire starter Jeremy Rhoades (1-7).
The Quakes added a Julian Leon solo homer, his second, and two more runs in the fifth, taking a commanding 6-0 lead.
Rancho got their final run in the seventh, as Edwin Rios singled and later scored on a double-play ball, making it 7-0.
De Paula was the only Rancho reliever to be touched for a run, as he gave up a single run in the eighth and then two in the ninth, but held on to secure the victory.
The Quakes (35-24), who move to within one game of High Desert (36-23) with 11 games to play in the first half, take Wednesday off, then head to Lake Elsinore on Thursday to open up a four-game series against the Storm. Andrew Sopko (6-0) will start the opener, while the Storm will go with Chris Huffman (6-1), with first pitch from The Diamond slated for 7:00pm.
?On Monday, June 13th, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for the final three home games of the first half, as they host the Lancaster JetHawks in a three-game series. Monday will be a Social Media Monday, as fans that follow the Quakes on all the social media platforms could win great prizes. Game time on Monday is set for 7:00pm and tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or rcquakes.com.
