Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Visalia, CA - The Visalia Rawhide held the Quakes to a season-low two hits, scoring a run in their last at-bat to edge Rancho Cucamonga by a final score of 2-1 on Thursday night at Recreation Park.

A two-out RBI triple off the bat of Ryan Court plated the go-ahead run, as Visalia took their second straight game by winning the opening game of the four-game series.

Tied at 1-1 in the last of the eighth, Pedro Baez gave up a one-out triple to David Nick. Baez (2-2) induced Gerson Montilla into a ground ball to shortstop Darnell Sweeney though, as Nick was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning. Court followed with a triple to center field, as Quakes' centerfielder Noel Cuevas dove to try to make the catch, allowing the ball to roll all the way to the wall and the winning run to score.

Rancho went in order in the ninth, as Kaleb Fleck struck out two of the three men he faced to earn his sixth save.

Visalia reliever Seth Simmons (4-1) picked up the win, working around some eighth-inning trouble, including a two-out single by Noel Cuevas, leaving two Quakes on base.

The lack of Rancho offense squandered an outstanding effort by starting pitcher Gustavo Gomez, who allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings of work. Gomez fanned eight and walked just one, with his only mistake being a home run off the bat of Yosbiel Gutierrez, which tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth.

Jonathan Garcia accounted for the lone run of the night for the Quakes, as he smashed his team-leading 12th round-tripper of the year, giving the Quakes a 1-0 lead in the second against Visalia starter Robert Coe.

Rancho (28-32) will send Garrett Gould (2-2) to the mound on Friday, taking on Visalia lefty Cody Wheeler (2-3) at 7:00pm.

Following the seven-game road trip, the Quakes will return home for a four-gamer with the Stockton Ports. Join us at LoanMart Field on Thursday, June 13th for Thirsty Thursday! Fans can enjoy $2 Domestic 16 oz drafts, $3 Premium 16 oz drafts and $2 Pepsi products throughout the night.
