Three Rawhide Players Named To Cal League All-Star Roster

June 7, 2013 - California League (CalL1)
Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA - The California League and Carolina League announced their All-Star rosters today, prefacing the June 18th All-Star Game at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, CA. Voting for each league was completed by the team managers, general managers, and select media members.

For the second season in a row, the Visalia Rawhide will send three men to represent the California League's finest baseball players. Right-handed pitcher Jake Barrett and infielders Jake Lamb and Gerson Montilla were selected to represent the Rawhide on the California League roster.

In his first season at the High-A level, Jake Barrett (2-0, 1.23 ERA) has proven himself to be one of the most dominant closers in the California League. He is 14-for-16 in save opportunities, and is tied for the most saves in the league to date. Barrett has been especially tough against right-handed batters, posting a .120 batting average. He has also yet to allow a run with runners in scoring position.

Infielder Gerson Montilla joined the Rawhide in the second half of last season and continues to have success in 2013. Montilla is batting .294 with 15 doubles, 6 home runs, and 25 RBI. He is also leading the team in runs scored (36). The young Venezuelan had a terrific month of May, hitting .336.

Despite playing just 37 games this season due to injuries, infielder Jake Lamb will also represent the Rawhide on the California League roster. When healthy, he has been one of the key pieces to the success of the Rawhide offense. Lamb came into this season as Baseball America's 16th ranked prospect in the Diamondbacks system. The strong lefty is currently hitting .287 with 11 doubles and leads the Rawhide roster with 8 home runs. Lamb will likely not play in the All-Star Game due to an injury, but will still represent the Rawhide as an All-Star on the California League roster.

The 17th California-Carolina League All-Star Game will be available nationally on MiLB.TV. The Carolina League won last year's matchup by a score of 9-1 in Winston-Salem, N.C., bringing the two Class-A Advanced circuits to a deadlock in the game's history with identical 7-7-2 records.

There's still time to see these All-Stars play at Rawhide Ballpark before the break, as the Rawhide will host 7 more games at home, including a four-game series with the San Jose Giants (SF) from June 13th- 16th.
