California League Announces All-Star Game
June 7, 2013 - California League (CalL1) News Release
Oxnard, CA - The California League is proud to announce the 2013 All-Stars. The roster is made up of 23 active players with at least one representative being selected from each Cal League team.
The 2013 California/Carolina League All-Star Game will be played in San Jose, CA at Municipal Stadium, the home of the San Jose Giants. It will mark the first time that the team has hosted this event. Baseball's top prospects, representing 18 Major League teams and 18 Minor League affiliates, will descend upon Municipal Stadium on June 18 as two of the nation's elite Class-A Advanced leagues matchup in the 17th California-Carolina League All-Star Game. After last year's 9- 1 victory by the Carolina League in Winston-Salem, N.C., the two Class-A Advanced circuits are deadlocked in the game's history with identical 7-7-2 records.
Managing the team is Andy Skeels, the manager for the San Jose Giants. He will have his pitching coach, Mike Couchee and hitting coach, Lipso Nava join him in the dugout for the game. Also part of the staff is trainer David Getsoff, strength coach, Dustin Brooks and clubhouse manager, Nate Alleyne.
The Giants lead the California League is winning percentage and will have the most players on the roster with 7 although only 5 are active for the game. Infielder Ryan Cavan and pitcher Hunter Strickland received enough votes to make the team but are injured. The Lancaster JetHawks, the 2012 Cal League Champions and 1st Half South Division leader will have 4 All Stars. No other Cal League team has more than 3. Ji-Man Choi with High Desert and Jake Lamb with Visalia would have been starters for the game. Choi was promoted and Lamb is injured.
