Power win third in a row

Greensboro, NC (August 9, 2005) - The West Virginia Power went into Tuesday afternoon's game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers with hopes of winning their third straight game. Ryan Braun hit a pair of RBI doubles and the Power went on to beat Greensboro 5-3.

The Power scored twice in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Grant Richardson knocked in the first run on a Sac Fly RBI and Ryan Braun hit his first of two RBI doubles to give the Power a 2-0 lead. Greensboro tied the game in the fourth inning when Andy Jenkins knocked in a run on a Sac Fly RBI and Steve Gendron scored later in the inning on a wild pitch. Charlie Fermaint hit a solo shot in the top of the fifth inning, his third with the Power to give them a 3-2 lead, but Greensboro tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Jai Miller hit a solo homerun. Ryan Braun struck again in the top of the eighth inning with two outs, hitting his second RBI double of the game to give the Power a 4-3 lead. The Power added a run in the ninth inning on Charlie Fermaint's RBI single. The game ended when Kevin Roberts struck out J.T. Restko with the tying run on second base.

Grant Richardson went 1 for 3 in the game, marking the 28th straight game that he has reached base safely.

Kevin Roberts (1-1) earned the victory, and Jeff Gogal (3-5) obtained the loss. The Power are 24-20 in the second half after the win and the Grasshoppers move to 18-26 with the loss.

The Power are off on Wednesday, and they will begin a four game series with Lexington on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power will throw right-handed pitcher Eric Thomas (0-0, 1.72) and Lexington has not announced their starter. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
