Legends take series with 5-4 win

The Lexington Legends captured a series win over Hagerstown. The Legends received solid pitching and timely hitting in route to a 5-4 win on Tuesday night. The victory returns the Legends to 18 games over .500 at 66-48.

The Legends broke from the gates quickly, sticking four runs on Jose Sanchez. Clint McGill singled with one out. McGill stole second, advanced to third base on a throwing error by Sanchez. Ole Sheldon singled to right scoring McGill.

Lexington loaded the bases and Ryan Reed singled in Drew Sutton. Mitch Einertson singled to left scoring two to give the Legends a four run advantage.

Carlos Gomez manufactured a run eventually scored on a ground out by Ambiorix Concepcion in the fourth inning. Jim Burt cut the Legends lead to two with a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning.

The Legends added a run in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Beau Torbert doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Reed. Burt singled Concepcion home in the sixth to make it 5-3. The Suns closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning

Chad Reineke (8-8) offered best outing as a starter. The right-hander worked six innings allowing two runs on three hits in getting the win. Ryan Thompson earned his ninth save of the season.

The Legends get Wednesday night off before starting the stretch drive on Thursday in West Virginia. Felipe Paulino will get his first start of the year on Thursday. Game time is set for 7:05. The Progressive Direct pre-game show will start at 6:50 on the Legends Radio Network.
