Power Stumble to 13-2 Setback

(Charleston, WV - June 5, 2015) - The West Virginia Power lost to the Rome Braves 13-2 on Friday night at State Mutual Stadium in Rome. The 13 runs and 18 hits surrendered were the most the team has allowed in a single game this season.

Rome tallied three runs in the first with two outs against West Virginia starter Alex McRae. Jordan Edgerton and Tanner Krietemeier hit back-to-back singles and scored on a Matt Tellor RBI double. Tellor then crossed when Braxton Davidson singled up the middle.

The Power responded with a run in the second. Michael Suchy led off the second with a double down the right field line to extend his hit-streak to seven games. He later scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Pablo Reyes.

In the fourth, Rome scored three runs on three hits to take a 6-1 lead. Ozhaino Albies tallied the most damaging hit in the inning with a two-run double down the line in left and he scored two batters later on an Edgerton RBI single.

The sixth inning saw the Power earn their second and final run. Jordan Luplow hit a leadoff double and scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Taylor Gushue to make the score 6-2.

Rome broke away in the sixth with a five-run frame and added two more in the seventh to take a 13-2 lead. Justin Black tallied a two-run home run for his first South Atlantic League hit. Krietemeier lashed a two-run double and Braxton Davidson made it 11-2 with an RBI single. In the seventh, Edgerton hit an RBI sacrifice fly and Black scored on a wild pitch.

McRae (3-4) suffered the loss for the Power after he surrendered six runs on nine hits over four innings. Max Povse (3-1) earned the win for the Braves. In relief, John Sever surrendered the other seven runs.

West Virginia (33-22) continues their four-game series with Rome (26-29) with game three on Saturday night in Georgia. RHP Colten Brewer (1-2, 5.11) will take the mound for the Power and will be opposed by Rome RHP Alex Grosser (4-2, 4.18). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490 AM, www.wvpower.com, and the TuneIn radio app is slated for 5:40 p.m.

When West Virginia returns home on Tuesday they will welcome in the Savannah Sand Gnats for three games followed by the Augusta Greenjackets for four games. Highlighting the next homestand will be Chuck's Birthday on Saturday, June 13 with a headphone giveaway to the first 1,000 fans presented by Renaissance Dental and 98.7 The Beat. That same night will also feature an appearance by the popular ZOOperstars. The homestand kicks off with a Tailgate Tuesday presented by Tailgate 107.3 with happy hour specials from 6 p.m. to the first pitch.
