Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 5, 2015) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have made three roster moves today, receiving both catch Ryan Plourde and infielder Alexander Simon from Extended Spring Training. In a corresponding move, catcher Zach Fish has been transferred to Extended Spring Training.
Plourde, 23, appeared in eight games for Kannapolis in May, batting .350 (7-20) with two doubles, three RBI, five walks, and an on-base percentage of .519. He appeared in one game for the High-A Winston-Salem Dash, going 2-for-4 with a double in his lone Carolina League contest. The White Sox signed the catcher July 8, 2014. He played collegiately at Fairfield (Conn.) University, where he was named to the All-MAAC First Team in 2013-14 and MAAC Championship All-Star Team in 2014.
Simon, 22, opened his 2015 campaign in the Tampa Bay Rays organization with the Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs in the Florida State League. He appeared in nine games, batting .080 (2-25). Last season with Class A Bowling Green, he hit .281 (121-430) with 22 doubles, three triples, four home runs, and 49 RBI in 122 games for the Hot Rods. A career .286 batter, Simon was acquired by the White Sox from the Rays last week for cash.
Fish, 22, has appeared in 20 games over two stints with Kannapolis. He is batting .125 (9-72) with a home run and seven RBI while transitioning to playing catcher. Last season as an outfielder for Advanced Rookie Great Falls, Fish hit .250 with five home runs and 22 RBI in 56 games in the Pioneer League during his professional debut. The White Sox drafted Fish in the 11th round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State where he was named the 2014 Big XII Conference Player of the Year.
The Intimidators continue a home stand today against the Delmarva Shorebirds at 7:05 p.m. at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Gates open at 6 p.m., and tickets are available by calling the F&M Bank Box Office at (704) 932-3267 or by visiting IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
