Gnats Use Big Fly for 4-0 Win to Go over .500 for First Time

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats won their fourth straight game, 4-0, over the Greenville Drive Friday night to move over .500 for the first time in the 2015 season. With the win, the Gnats moved three games behind the Drive for first place with 15 games to play in the South Atlantic League's first half.

The Gnats (28-27) have won 15 of their last 20 games and are 20-11 in their last 31 contests.

Two solo homers, one by right fielder Wuilmer Becerra in the sixth inning, and one by catcher Tomas Nido in the fourth, powered the Savannah offense.

Savannah also scored in the first inning on an RBI single by first baseman Jon Leroux and in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by left fielder John Mora.

The Drive (31-24) were held to just three hits all night by the combination of starter Scarlyn Reyes and reliever Ben Griset. Reyes dealt seven shutout innings with five strikeouts while Griset handed the last two frames with three whiffs.

The Sand Gnats and Greenville will continue their four-game series tomorrow at 6:05 PM. Savannah will start RHP Corey Oswalt (3-2, 4.78) in game three, while the Drive will send RHP Jeffry Fernandez (1-5, 5.14) to the mound. There will be a Saturday Night Fireworks show with gates opening at 5 PM.
