KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 5, 2015)- The Kannapolis Intimidators used solo home run's by Christian Stringer and Louie Lechich to beat the Delmarva Shorebirds, 5-3, Friday Night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.
Thad Lowry (6-2) earned the win by going 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out seven.
Delmarva jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. With two outs, Conor Bierfeldt doubled down the left field line to score TJ Olesczuk from second. The next at-bat Bierfeldt scored on a single by Jomar Reyes.
In the home half of the first inning, Kannapolis matched Delmarva's two runs to tie the game, 2-2. With Eddy Alvarez on second Christian Stringer skipped a ground ball over the glove of Delmarva first baseman Riley Palmer, the ball was misplayed by right fielder Ellier Leyva allowing Alvarez to score. With Stringer at third Louie Lechich grounded out to Jared Breen scoring Stringer.
In the third inning, Christian Stringer crushed a home run (1) over the right-field fence to break the deadlock and give Kannapolis their first lead, 3-2.
Kannapolis extended their lead to 4-2 in the third inning. With Mason Robbins at third, Eddy Alvarez grounded a slow hit ball to Jared Breen at short, Breen's throw to first was wild, scoring Robbins from third.
Delmarva cut into the Intimidators lead in the fifth to make it 4-3 but never go any closer.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lechich cranked a home run (3) to right-center field to extend the lead to 5-3.
Brian Gonzalez (3-4) was charged with the loss, working 6.0 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out four.
Jacob Morris worked 2.0 innings of relief allowing no runs, one hit while walking one and striking out four. Matt Cooper earned the save (4) in a perfect ninth inning.
The Intimidators and Shorebirds continue their 4-game series Saturday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Right-hander Yency Almonte (4-2, 4.35) gets the start against Delmarva righty Matthew Grimes (3-3. 5.03).
