Power Beat Legends in Ten

Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
HIGHLIGHTS: The West Virginia Power beat the Lexington Legends 2-1 in ten innings on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. Cole White hit the first pitch of the inning over the left field wall to send the Power to their first walk-off win of the season.
West Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Andy Vasquez singled to snap an 0-17 drought and advanced to third on a wild pitch and a throwing error. After Mel Rojas walked, Justin Howard grounded out to the right side of the infield to bring home Vasquez.
The one run lead was enough for Power starting pitcher Zac Fuesser. The left-hander didn't allow a base hit until the fourth and finished with five shutout innings. Brooks Pounders followed with two scoreless frames of his own and West Virginia kept that 1-0 edge until the top of the eighth inning.
In the eighth, Emilio King singled off Power reliever Jason Townsend, and Delino DeShields Jr. reached on a bunt base hit. After a sacrifice bunt advanced both runners into scoring position, Adam Bailey walked to load the bases. Ben Heath hit a ground ball to third, Kevin Mort fielded the ball, stepped on the third base bag, and attempted to complete the double play with a throw to first. Heath was ruled safe at first and King scored the tying run. Power manager Gary Robinson was ejected while arguing whether or not Heath was safe at first.
With runners on at first and second and two out in the top of the eighth, Mike Kvasnicka singled to left. White fielded the ball and threw home in time for Elias Diaz to apply the tag to Bailey for the final out of the inning. Bailey's unsuccessful attempt to dislodge the ball without a slide forced tempers to flair and the dugouts to clear. Two players from each team were ejected when sides had calmed: Diaz and Pounders were ejected for West Virginia while Bailey and reliever Brian Streilein were sent to the clubhouse for the Legends.
After each team went out in order in the ninth, Lexington managed two base runners in to top of the tenth but could not plate a run.
White hit the first pitch off reliever Jorge DeLeon over the left field wall for his first South Atlantic League home run and gave the Power the 2-1 walk-off win. West Virginia is now 1-5 in games decided in the last at bat.
Kevin Decker (2-2) pitched the top of the tenth inning for the victory, while DeLeon (1-4) took the loss.
West Virginia and Lexington continue this series on Tuesday evening at Appalachian Power Park. Colton Cain and Rubin Alaniz are the scheduled starters for the Power and Legends, respectively. Gates will open at 6:00 pm with a 7:05 pm first pitch slated.
POWER RECORD: 38-35
