
Fifteen Hits Not Enough to Carry Rome

Rome, GA -The Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Rome Braves 13-8 in a wild 27 hit affair Monday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 1,863.
Rome took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Edward Salcedo (8) for the 1-0 lead. The Gnats grabbed the lead back in the top of the second with two runs highlighted by an RBI triple by Same Honeck and an RBI single by Joe Bonfe. The Braves pushed four runs across the plate in the third for the 5-2 lead on a two RBI single by Jakob Dalfonso and a two RBI double by Davis Rohm. The lead was short lived as Savannah scored four runs of their own in the fourth inning, thanks to a two RBI single by Bonfe, a wild pitch scoring a run, and an RBI single by Wilfredo Tovar making the score 6-5. The Braves bounced back to tie the contest a 6-6 in the bottom of the inning on a Salcedo run scoring double.
The Sand Gnats broke the tie in the sixth for the 7-6 score on a run scoring single by Tovar. Rome came right back and pulled even once again 7-7 in the bottom of the inning thanks to an RBI single by Evan Gattis. After that it was all Savannah however Salcedo hit his second home run of the night (9) in the eighth inning and went 5 for 5 on the night. The Gnats plated six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to win the game by a final score of 13-8.
Chase Huchingson (4-2) gets the win for Savannah while Chasen Shreve (1-3) takes the loss for Rome.
