Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 27, 2011) -- The Hickory Crawdads pushed their way into extra innings and dropped the Kannapolis Intimidators, 10-8, in 13 innings at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Monday night in the Intimidators longest game of the season, 4 hour and 25 minutes. With the tying runners on base in the bottom of the 13th, Drew Lee lined into a double play to end the game.

The Crawdads led off the top of the 13th with back to back singles from Odubel Herrera and Tomas Telis. Christian Villanueva broke an 8-8 tie with a sac fly to bring in Herrera, Hickory's first lead since the second inning, and Andrew Clark doubled to score Telis.

Hickory's Alejandro Selen tied the game, 8-8, with a solo home run in the top of the ninth off Jake Wilson to force extra innings.

The Intimidators threatened to end the game in the bottom of the 10th with the winning run on third base and one out, but Hickory's Joe Van Meter retired Trayce Thompson and Brady Shoemaker to end the inning.

Ben Henry (2-0) picked up the win for the Crawdads, pitching a scoreless 12th inning, and Ryan Rodebaugh tossed a scoreless 13th for the save (12). Nick McCully (1-1) took the loss for Kannapolis, allowing two runs in the 13th inning after keeping the Crawdads off the board in the 11th and 12th innings.

Hickory's Jurickson Profar blasted a three-run home run in the top of the second inning to give the Crawdads an early 4-0 lead. Kannapolis overcame the deficit with six runs in the bottom of the second innings.

Brady Shoemaker singled to lead off the inning, and Drew Lee doubled him over to third. After Kevin Dubler drove in Shoemaker, Rafael Vera walked to load the bases. Kenny Gilbert drew a walk to cash Lee. Carlos Sanchez and Juan Silverio followed with a pair of RBI-outs to tie the game, 4-4. Dan Black blasted a two-out two-run home run (12) to give Kannapolis the lead, 6-4.

Vera and Sanchez added run-scoring singles in the third inning to extend the Intimidators lead, 8-4.

Hickory answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, and threatened to take the lead in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded, two outs and the Intimidators leading 8-6, Dexter Carter hit Jhonny Gomez -- his fourth hit batter of the game -- to pull the Crawdads within a run. Chase Cooney came in to get the final out of the inning and worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Starting pitchers Dexter Carter and Ramon Mendez combined to allow 15 runs on 20 hits in 7.0 innings before both bullpens came in to quiet down the opposing offense.

The Intimidators continue the four-game series against the Crawdads on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Kannapolis will send RHP Steven Upchurch (2-6, 4.24) to the mound against RHP Nick Tepesch (2-3, 3.38) for Hickory.
