Asheville Tourists News Release

Second baseman Russell Wilson announced today that he will pursue his final year of eligibility at the Division I level of college football by leaving the Asheville Tourists and attending the University of Wisconsin. Wilson will not play with the Tourists or any other team in the Colorado Rockies' organization for the remainder of the 2011 season.

Drafted by the Rockies in the fourth round in 2010 out of North Carolina State, Wilson batted .228 and owned an on-base percentage of .366 with five doubles, four triples, three home runs and 15 RBIs in 61 games with Asheville. A two-sport standout in college who received All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades as a quarterback with the Wolfpack, Wilson earned his degree from N.C. State, making him eligible to play this coming fall with the Wisconsin Badgers of the Big 10 Conference.

"The Asheville Tourists have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Russell Wilson both on and off the field," said Tourists president Brian DeWine. "He is a first-class person who worked as hard at becoming a better player as anyone you will ever see. He was outstanding with the fans and the community, and we wish him well in football this fall at Wisconsin."
