Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods returned home with a bang, defeating the West Michigan Whitecaps 15-1 thanks in part to a 10 run fourth inning. The 10 run inning ties a franchise record for runs in an inning at home, and is one shy of the all-time franchise record at 11.
The Hot Rods struck first in the bottom of the first inning when 3B Zach Rutherford hit a two out single on a ground ball right up the middle. LF Moises Gomez put the Hot Rods on the board with a two run home run to left field and the Hot Rods had the early lead thanks to the two out rally.
Bowling Green added on runs in the second and the third. In the second CF Carl Chester tripled home RF Emilio Gustave. SS Taylor Walls lead off the third inning with a leadoff home run, and Rutherford followed that up with a double and came around to score on a RBI single from C Ronaldo Hernandez.
Then was the big fourth inning. Before tonight the most runs in an inning this season was six which occurred in Lansing. The Hot Rods started out the ten run fourth with four straight singles and two walks which brought Hernandez to the plate with the bases loaded. He smoked his second grand slam of the season. Bowling Green followed up with three more hits, two walks, and a hit batter to complete the frame with a 15-0 lead
The Whitecaps got their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth when SS Cole Peterson reached on an error and scored on a double from CF Jose Azocar.
RHP Riley O'Brien got his third start of the season and worked with efficiency throwing five innings. He only allowed two hits and struck out five while picking up his second win of the season. RHP Tyler Day followed up with two innings giving up one unearned run, and he racked up three strikeouts. RHP Jose Disla and LHP Ivan Pelaez finished out the game each throwing one inning.
The Hot Rods and the Whitecaps meet again tomorrow at 6:35pm. RHP Dane Myers (1-0, 1.86) will go for the Whitecaps and RHP Tommy Romero (3-3, 2.45) will go for the Hot Rods.
