Snappers Bounce Back with Double-Header Sweep
June 1, 2018 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit, WI - The Beloit Snappers (24-27) won in convincing fashion in both games of a double-header against the Kane County Cougars (27-25) on Thursday night and took three games in the five-game series.
Game one was a low scoring affair, with the Snappers holding on in seven innings for a 2-0 win. The only offense came off the bat of Snappers first baseman Hunter Hargrove, who grounded a 2-RBI single to left field that scored Mickey McDonald and Lazaro Armenteros. The Cougars would be held to just one hit overall.
Snappers game one starter Mitchell Jordan was masterful, going six innings of one-hit ball, two strikeouts and lowering his ERA down to 1.78. Seth Martinez secured the save in the last inning to complete a dominating pitching performance.
Game two was an opposite for Beloit, who rattled off nine runs (one shy of the team high for the season) in a 9-2 victory.
The second inning of game two made was the deciding point of the game. The Snappers batted around, brought 12 men to the plate (each reaching base safely in the inning) and scored eight runs on seven hits. It surpassed the previous season high for most runs in an inning, which was five last set on May 17th at Wisconsin. Every Snapper throughout got at least one hit and Logan Farrar was the only Snapper to not score a run.
Like game one, game two's starter was impressive. Bryce Conley secured his second win of the season in his eight start, going 5.1 innings on four hits, two runs and seven strikeouts. Nick Highberger pitched the final 1.2 innings scoreless for a total of nine team strikeouts.
Coming off a game two loss in a double-header on Tuesday and Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Cougars, the Snappers bounced back to take three of five in the series and ride momentum into the weekend.
Catching game two for the Snappers was leading hitter Jordan Devencenzi. In his first at bat to begin the wild second inning, Devencenzi lined a single to raise his hit streak to 15 games, tying Hunter Hargrove for the team high on the season. Over the streak, he is batting .351 with eight RBI and just six strikeouts.
The Snappers will now travel to Quad Cities for three games. Game one is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and pitching for the Snappers will be left-hander Ivan Andueza (0-2, 6.20). The River Bandits will send out left-hander Parker Mushinski (2-0, 1.86).
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics since 2013. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362-2272 or on our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
