Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Davenport, IA - The Quad Cities River Bandits enjoyed a quick start against Beloit on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  However, it was the Snappers who finished stronger as they took the opening game of the series by a 4-2 score.

The River Bandits jumped out of the gates, scoring the first run in the first inning.  Jake Meyers opened the home half of the inning with a triple into the gap in right center, his third of the season.  With one out, Corey Julks slapped a single into right field to plate Meyers and put the Bandits on top 1-0.

In the bottom of the second, Bryan De La Cruz reached base with a single and moved to second when Meyers walked with two outs.  Jonathan Arauz stepped in and dropped an RBI single out of the reach of the diving left fielder Lazaro Armenteros to score De La Cruz and make it 2-0.

Beloit scratched across a run against Parker Mushinski in the fourth.  Jordan Devencenzi singled into right field with one out to start the attack.  The next hitter, Jesus Lopez, pounded a double over the head of De La Cruz in right, allowing Devencenzi to race all the way home and cutting the Bandits lead to 2-1.

The River Bandits brought on Enoli Paredes from the bullpen to work the fifth and Beloit jumped on him to score an unearned run and even the score.  Paredes hit Nick Allen with a pitch to open the frame and Allen quickly stole second to move into scoring position. Mickey McDonald drew a walk to join him on base, but was erased on a 4-6 groundout by Lazaro Armenteros that left runners on the corners.  Armenteros stole second base and the when Ruben Castro's throw to second bounced away and into center field, Allen scored to tie the game 2-2.

After retiring the first two hitters in the eighth, Paredes walked back-to-back hitters to put two on before exiting in favor of reliever Brendan Feldmann.  The first batter Feldmann faced, Trace Loehr, dumped a single into shallow left field to score Devencenzi and put the Snappers in front 3-2.

Beloit added an insurance run in the ninth inning when Mickey McDonald reached on an error and then stole second base.  Lazaro Armenteros ripped a double into the left field corner that plated McDonald and increased the Snappers advantage to 4-2.

The River Bandits loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Arauz struck out for the second out and then Corey Julks hit a sharp line drive directly at Armenteros in left field who caught the ball and ended the game.

Mushinski tossed 4.0 innings and allowed one run on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts.  Paredes backed him up with 3.2 innings and surrendered two runs, one earned, without allowing a hit.  He struck out five and walked four. Feldmann made his debut with the River bandits by working the final 1.1 innings and allowing an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout.

The Bandits closed the night with eight hits.  Arauz was the only player with multiple knocks, finishing the game 2-5 with an RBI.

The River Bandits (30-25) and Snappers (25-27) will resume their series on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m.  RHP Leovanny Rodriguez (2-0, 0.64) will be the Quad Cities starter with RHP Wyatt Marks (3-4, 4.13) countering for Beloit.
