Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (April 1, 2014) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost to the Springfield Falcons Tuesday by a final score of 3-1. Andrey Pedan scored a late goal for the Sound Tigers, while Kevin Poulin stopped 24 shots in goal. Tuesday's Spring Fun 102 game was played in front of 8,604 fans, the largest home crowd for the Sound Tigers in franchise history.
The Falcons got on the board at the 5:25 mark after they dumped the puck behind the Sound Tigers net. Poulin came out to play it, but got tangled up with Jake Hansen. Hansen wrestled the puck away from the goaltender and it put it into the open net to give Springfield a 1-0 lead.
Just over two minutes later, the Falcons went on the power play and scored right off the offensive-zone faceoff. After Springfield won the draw, Cody Golubef gave it across to Marko Dano, whose wrist shot beat Poulin and made it a 2-0 game.
The Sound Tigers looked sharper in the second period and spent the majority of the first half of the middle frame in the Falcons end. They fired 11 shots on goal in the second, but Forsberg made saves on every one and kept it a 2-0 game through 40 minutes of play.
Both teams generated offensive chances in the third period, as well, but neither scored until there was less than two minutes remaining in the period. Still trailing 2-0, the Sound Tigers dumped the puck deep into the Falcons zone. The combination of Ben Rosen and Chris Bruton dug it out, and found Pedan in the high slot. The defenseman ripped a one-timer past Falcons goaltender Anton Forsberg and cut the lead in half.
The Sound Tigers then opted to pull Kevin Poulin in favor of the extra attacker and looked for an opportunity to tie the score. However, Cody Bass notched an empty-net goal at the 19:30 mark to seal the victory of Springfield.
The Sound Tigers return to action Friday night when they travel to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins before a trip to Glens Falls to take on the Adirondack Phanomts Saturday. They'll end the weekend at home with a 3 p.m. game against the Hershey Bears.
