Kings Sign Two Prospects

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have signed forwards Nic Dowd (one-year entry level contract) and Michael Mersch (three-year entry level contract), Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Dowd, 23, just completed his fourth year at St. Cloud State University. In 38 games this season, he recorded 40 points (22-1840) and 32 penalty minutes, helping the Huskies advance to the second round of the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championships. Among NCHC leaders, Dowd was tied for fifth in points, second in goals and first in power play goals (10). Dowd increased his point total every season at St. Cloud State (18 in his freshman year in 2010-11, 24 in 2011-12, 39 in 2012-13 and 40 in 2013-14).

Mersch, 21, just completed his fourth year at the University of Wisconsin. In 37 games this season, he recorded 35 points (22-1335) and 18 penalty minutes, helping the Badgers claim a berth in the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championships. Among Big-10 leaders, Mersch was tied for fifth in points, tied for first in goals and first in power play goals (10). Mersch had 19 points during his freshman year at Wisconsin in 2010-11, 30 points in 2011-12, a career-high 36 points in 2012-13 and 35 points in 2013-14.
