Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

When the Winterhawks beat Seattle Friday night, it was their 19th win of the season, tying the number they had all of last season, and is already more than they had in 2007-08 (11) and 2006-07 (17). In addition the team already has 125 goals in 31 games this season, just 51 shy of their total for 2008-09. The team is averaging 4.03 goals per game this season, up from last season's 2.44. And whereas Portland had just six players in double figures in goals in 2008-09, they're already up to five this season, with two more players sitting at nine goals.

Nino Niederreiter has been on a tear of late, posting seven goals and five assists for 12 points in his last six games. The streak includes his first career WHL hat trick on Nov. 24 vs. Regina, and a career-high four points Nov. 27 at Seattle. He leads the Winterhawks in goals (17) and is second on the team in points (34). In addition, his 34 points has him atop all WHL rookies in scoring, and most impressively, is first among all rookies throughout the CHL, which includes 60 teams in the WHL, the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
