
Portland pounds out 12 hits in 11-1 win Wednesday night

Portland, ME- Eric Nielsen drove in a run with a single in the top of the third inning to put the Fisher Cats up 1-0, but that was all New Hampshire tallied in an 11-1 loss to Portland Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.
The Sea Dogs (50-39) scored three runs in the last of the third inning, four times in the bottom of the fourth inning and three more in the last of the fifth inning to open a 10-1 lead.
Michael Bowden (9-4) worked the first five innings, allowing just one run on five hits, walking two and striking out eight batters to earn the win. Richie Lentz and Beau Vaughan combined to keep the Fisher Cats off the board over the final four innings. Lentz, in making his Eastern League debut, worked 2.1 innings, striking out four batters.
The Sea Dogs dealt Robert Ray (3-3) his third consecutive loss. Ray allowed seven runs, six earned, in 3.1 IP. Ray was followed by Julio Pinto and Jean Machi. Machi allowed one run on two hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Portland's offense was paced by shortstop Iggy Suarez, who had three hits, driving in three runs. Jeff Corsaletti added two RBI with a bases loaded single in the third inning, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Mickey Hall went 2-for-4, driving in two runs with a fourth inning triple.
Andrew Pinckney had three hits for the Fisher Cats (34-57), including two doubles. Scott Campbell went 2-for-4, raising his average to an Eastern League-leading .337.
The rubber game of the series in Portland will be Thursday night at 7:00pm. The Fisher Cats start LHP Brett Cecil (3-2, 3.16) against Portland LHP Dave Gassner (1-4, 5.79). Radio coverage with Bob Lipman begins at 6:40pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The 2008 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game takes place at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:05pm. Gates open at 3:00pm.
