Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- Adam Cowart's pitching prowess coupled with a potent offense that delivered a slew of runs equated to a 9-0 drubbing of the Binghamton Mets.

Cowart got instant run support in the home half of the first. Kyle Haines started things off by getting aboard on an error. Haines moved up to second on a wild pitch and Antoan Richardson singled him home. Richardson proceeded to swipe second to get into scoring position for Eddy Martinez-Esteve. Eddy sprayed a single to the opposite field and Richardson scored easily to make it 2-0, Defs.

Cowart started piling up zeroes from the get-go. By the time his outing was done, he chucked six scoreless frames, scattered five hits, walked two and struck out two en route to his seventh win.

Connecticut blew up in the sixth as Adam Witter raked a single up the middle. Carlos Sosa followed with a battled walk, Ryan Rohlinger laid a picture-perfect bunt down the first base line as both runners moved up. When the first baseman Mike Carp was trying to get the ball out of his glove, his mishandled it and everyone was safe. With the bases oozing with Defenders, Jake Wald shot a double down the left field line to plate two, Dave Maroul walked to re-load the bags and it was Haines' turn to take hacks. Kyle hit a rocket into the left-center field gap to bring three Defenders home as he stood ninety feet away from being the sixth run of the frame. Pablo Sandoval would lace a single to score Haines and the rally capped off with a hefty 8-0 Connecticut advantage.

Rohlinger would add a solo bomb pulled over the left field wall to push the lead to 9-0 as Connecticut's bullpen took care of the rest.

Ronnie Ray and Josh Sharpless shut down the opposition over the next three innings as the Defenders won comfortably, 9-0.
