(Portland, ME) - The Sea Dogs (50-39) scored 10 times over three innings to thrash the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (34-57) 11-1 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. Portland evens their series with New Hampshire at one game a piece and improves to 4-2 on their 7-game homestand, which ends on Thursday night.
Portland starter Michael Bowden (9-4) earned his 2nd straight win, working 5 strong innings on five hits and one run. Bowden issued two walks and reached the 100 strikeout-plateau by fanning eight. On the season, the righty has an ERA of 2.33 (2nd in the league) and 101 strikeouts (most among Red Sox Minor League Pitchers).
Robert Ray (3-3) allowed a career-high seven runs (six earned) in just 3.1 IP. Ray yielded six hits, two walks and fanned two.
New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Eric Nielson's 2-out RBI single, scoring David Smith. Portland responded with three runs in the 3rd inning off Ray. Iggy Suarez (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Bubba Bell delivered singles with one out. Tony Granadillo was hit-by-a-pitch and Jeff Corsaletti followed with a 2-run single. On the play, a throwing error by CF David Smith allowed Granadillo to score.
Suarez had a big night for the Sea Dogs, delivering an RBI double in the fourth and a 2-run single in the fifth. Mickey Hall chased Ray out of the game in the fourth with a run-scoring triple off the right-field wall. Bubba Bell (sacrifice fly) and Jorge Jimenez (RBI double) also drove in runs for Portland.
Richie Lentz was outstanding in his Double-A debut for the Sea Dogs. The righty, who was a California League-All Star with the Lancaster JetHawks, fired 2.1 scoreless frames on three hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Beau Vaughan closed out the game with 1.2 IP on one hit to seal Portland's 10th win of the season against New Hampshire.
Former Sea Dog Andrew Pinckney went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and has three 2-base hits in the series. Scott Campbell and Nielson also had two hits for the visitors.
Wednesday's game started at 8:04 PM due to a one hour and 4 minute rain delay.
