
Celebrate Roberto Clemente's Birthday at Thunder's Latin American Night

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, will host Trenton Thunder Latin American Night on Tuesday, August 12 as the Thunder host the Bowie Baysox at 7:05 PM.
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Latina Women's Council and will feature a baseball equipment drive to benefit Roberto's Kids, a non-profit organization named for Baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente.
Latin American Night in Trenton is being held 6 days prior to the late Roberto Clemente's 74th birthday.
A portion of each ticket sale for the August 12 game will benefit The Latina Women's Council Scholarship Fund. To support the cause, tickets must be purchased by phone by contacting Latina Women's Council representatives Nilda Garcia at 609-443-4836 or Rosangel Rivera (609) 203-3487 or by completing and returning an order form at trentonthunder.com.
The Latina Women's Council is a non-profit organization committed to the progress and well being of Latinos and their communities. The group consists of, but is not limited to, Latina women in Mercer County, and was founded for the purpose of developing strategies that will promote community pride, unity and involvement.
All fans at the game on August 12 are encouraged to bring new or gently used baseball equipment with them to the game. The equipment will be collected on the "approach" outside the main gates at Waterfront Park to benefit Roberto's Kids. Items being collected include: gloves, bats, balls, catcher's equipment, bases, batting helmets, cleats & sneakers, uniforms, hats, and socks.
Roberto's Kids is a collection program that delivers new and gently used baseball equipment to children in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Stephen Pindar of Oneonta, NY and Steve Tremitiere of Newtown, PA have teamed together merging their individual programs into one program endorsed by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the family of the late Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente.
"Roberto's Kids has brought joy to those who don't always get the opportunities," says Luis R. Clemente, Roberto Clemente's youngest son. "In the Clemente tradition of giving and caring for others, it is truly making a difference by touching and inspiring so many lives."
Roberto Clemente, born August 18, 1934, played eighteen seasons in Major League Baseball from 1955 to 1972. He was involved in charity work both in Puerto Rico and other Latin American countries, often delivering baseball equipment and food to them. He died in an aviation accident in 1972, while en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
August 12 will also feature a Thunder History 3 Logo Baseball Collector's Set for the first 1,000 fans, ages 6 and over thanks To PNC Bank. The sets will contain three baseballs, each one with a different team logo from Thunder history.
