
Portland Drops Game Four to New Hampshire, 12-4

MANCHESTER, NH - Despite another early lead for the Portland Sea Dogs, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' bats came alive and the Sea Dogs dropped the fourth game of the series, 12-4 on Friday night. The Sea Dogs drop to 9-7 and remain in second place in the Double-A Northeast League while the Fisher Cats improve to 7-9.
Rio Gomez made his Double-A debut in relief with the Sea Dogs. Despite allowing three runs on six hits, he fanned a career-high seven batters in his 3.0 innings of relief.
Starter AJ Politi pitched 1.2 innings allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits while walking three and striking out two.
The Sea Dogs plated their first run in the first inning. Triston Casas reached on a two-out single then moved to second when Johan Mieses drew a walk. Joey Meneses then drove home Casas with a single and Portland was on the board, 1-0.
The Fisher Cats scored in each of the first four innings. They capitalized on two fielding errors by the Sea Dogs in the first inning and scored two runs, jumping out to the 2-1 lead. Then in the second inning, they scored four more runs on four hits. In the third inning, Reggie Pruitt hit a two-out home run to right field. The Fisher Cats recorded back-to-back doubles and plated two more runs in the fourth inning and continued to lead, 9-1.
Ryan Fitzgerald hit his second home run of the series, a solo shot to right field in the top of the seventh, and the Sea Dogs continued to trail, 11-2.
The Sea Dogs threatened in the ninth inning, with a lead-off double by Meneses then a walk by Ryan Fitzgerald, but they were unable to complete the comeback and fell to the Fisher Cats, 12-4.
The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats face off again tomorrow night at 6:35pm. Portland will send RHP Frank German (0-2, 7.04 ERA) to the mound while New Hampshire will send RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson (1-0, 1.29 ERA).
