The Reading Fightin Phils took the loss in game three to the Akron RubberDucks, 3-2 on Friday night at Canal Park. Matt Vierling, in his first game of the series, took a ball to deep left field in the first inning to put the Fightins up 2-0 early on. The team played as the Los Luchadores de Reading as they do every Friday to honor the Hispanic and Latino contributions and culture to the game of baseball and to the City of Reading.

The R-Phils bats were quiet tonight as the only other hit of the evening came from Madison Stokes. They did get on base other ways though as there were four walks and one hit by pitch.

Akron's first scored when Richard Palacios walked in Will Benson in the second. The team did not strike again until the sixth when Oscar Gonzalez hit a two run bullet to score Bo Naylor. They would retain that 3-2 lead for the rest of the contest.

Manager Shawn Williams handed the ball to Ethan Lindow. The southpaw went 3.0 IP with three hits and one earned run. Billy Sullivan made his Double-A debut with a scoreless two innings of relief. Jonathan Hennigan (L, 0-2) (BS, 1) came on in the sixth but was not able to get the job done as Akron took the lead. Zach Warren finished off the eighth blanking the RubberDucks.

Shane McCarthy got the start in Akron. He gave up the early lead but then went another five innings scoreless. Skylar Arias (W, 1-0) was a little rocky in relief, but pulled it together and did not allow any runs across. Francisco Perez and Nick Mikolajchak (S, 2) took the eighth and ninth respectively. Mikolajchak slammed the door shut, striking out the side to end the game.
