(Pawtucket, RI) Rick Porcello retired the last thirteen Lehigh Valley IronPigs he faced and held the line until the Pawtucket Red Sox' offense erupted in a 7-3 win on Friday night at McCoy Stadium. Porcello, who struck out five of his last six hitters, departed with two outs in the sixth having allowed three runs on just three hits. Almost the instant he was lifted from the game, the Sox' offense put the game away.

After Jorge Marban had gotten the last out of the sixth in a 3-2 game, the bats came to life. Jeff Bianchi singled and chased IronPigs' starter Jesse Biddle beginning the bottom of the sixth before Humberto Quintero and Jonathan Roof greeted reliever Jason Berken with consecutive hits.

After Jemile Weeks struck out, Deven Marrero tied the game with a single to center. After Berken fanned Sandy Leon, Carlos Rivero hit a ball to Pigs' third baseman Russ Canzler. Canzler's throw sailed past first baseman Tommy Joseph, allowed two runs to score and the PawSox led 5-3.

Allen Craig then capped a five-run inning with a single to right that scored Marrero and Rivero.

The PawSox had fallen behind in the first inning when Chase d'Arnaud led off the game with a single off the third base bag. Porcello hit Tyler Henson with a pitch; both runners stole a base and scored on consecutive groundout to push Lehigh Valley ahead 2-0.

The IronPigs tacked on a second run in the second on Kelly Dugan's homer just inside the right-field foul pole. Humberto Quintero got Pawtucket on the board with a homer in the bottom of the second and pulled within a run in the fifth when Sandy Leon plated Marrero, who had singled and advanced on a wild pitch.

Marban picked up right where Porcello had left off; the Pawtucket pitchers retired 19 in a row and allowed only two hits after the second inning. No Ramirez pitched a scoreless ninth.

The PawSox return to McCoy tomorrow night game two of the series with the IronPigs at 6:05. Lefthander Rich Hill (1-0, 0.00) goes for Pawtucket and will be opposed by Lehigh Valley righty Alec Asher (1-0, 2.84). Radio coverage will begin on WHJJ and online at 5:50 after the PawSox Insider Show.
