
Bisons Blast Chiefs in Series Opener

Buffalo, NY (August 21, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Buffalo Bisons, 9-0, Friday night at Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons had hits in every inning until the eighth to take the series opener.
Buffalo (65-62) started the scoring in the first. Dalton Pompey singled off Chiefs starter Taylor Hill. Pompey was sacrificed to second, and scored on Andy Burns' single to lift Buffalo to a 1-0 lead. After a single and groundout, Hill walked Caleb Gindl with two outs. Ty Kelly followed with a two-run single to push the lead to 3-0. Kelly's hit was the first of ten two-out hits in the game for the Bisons.
The Bisons added a another run in the second. Hill got the first two outs, but surrendered three consecutive two-out singles to Pompey, Munenori Kawasaki, and Burns to plate the fourth Bisons run.
Buffalo scored again in the fourth. Alex Hassen doubled home Burns with out one to push the lead to 5-0.
Syracuse (56-71) went to the bullpen in the fifth and P.J. Walters walked Kelly to open the frame. Josh Thole followed with his first of two doubles to score Kelly and make it 6-0. Three batters later, Kawasaki singled to right field to score Thole after Ramsey bobbled the ball to extend the lead to 7-0.
Buffalo finished off the scoring in the sixth. Thole doubled with two outs off Scott McGregor, and Jonathan Diaz followed with a double of his own to plate Thole. Pompey then singled a batter later to score Diaz and cap the scoring at 9-0.
Syracuse and Buffalo play the second game of the three-game set Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Bruce Billings is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Todd Redmond for the Bisons.
