New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH- Dalton Pompey launched a two-run blast in the bottom half of the sixth, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats still dropped the game 7-3 against the Richmond Flying Squirrels Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Pompey's blast in his first game back since returning to the club matched the homer he hit for New Hampshire (26-29) in his last game before being promoted last August. Joel Pineiro (1-2) gave the Fisher Cats a much needed quality start on the hill to rest some of the bullpen, but the Flying Squirrels (27-26) posted four late runs to take the win..
The Flying Squirrels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Rando Moreno doubled home Kelby Tomlinson. Richmond would go on to tack on two more runs off of Pineiro in the second before they were silenced for the rest of the starter's outing.
The Fisher Cats got one back in the third inning, as Jorge Flores came around to score on a throwing error by Richmond starter Kyle Crick during a pickoff attempt. Crick would be promptly chased from the game after just three innings, having walked six batters.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Fisher Cats knotted things up. Shane Opitz singled against Edwin Quirarte to lead off the frame before Pompey smashed the two-run dinger to right field, evening the score at 3-3.
After Pineiro left after successfully getting the first out of the eighth, the New Hampshire bullpen took over and trouble began anew. Greg Burke would get charged a run after coming into relieve Pineiro, hitting the first batter he faced. Luis Perez allowed the inherited runner to score, and gave up three more runs in the ninth, leading to the final 7-3 margin.
The Fisher Cats will look to take the final match of the series on Sunday afternoon 1:35 p.m. matinee game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The first 1,000 fans into the park will receive a free Fisher Cats hat courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental in honor of Irish Heritage day. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com or by calling the ticket office at (603)-641-2005.
John Anderson will be handed the ball for the Fisher Cats during the finale against Richmond as they look to avoid the sweep. Radio coverage will begin at 1:15 p.m. with Ben Gellman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.
