New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - On Saturday night, June 6, the Fisher Cats partnered with Next Step Bionics and Prosthetics to host a Home Run for Life--a ceremonial "homerun" trot around the bases--for former UNH football star Muji Karim at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Karim showcased his world class speed on a pair of prosthetic legs by taking a lap around the bases symbolizing his "Home Run for Life" during the game in the middle of the fifth inning. The game was halted, and both teams took to the foul lines to greet Muji. He was met with hugs at home plate by members of his rehab team from Next Step Bionics & Prosthetics, Inc. Prior to the game, Karim threw out a first pitch, and was recognized for his achievements and his recovery.
Karim lost both legs and part of his left hand in a car accident after his football playing days. After a lengthy rehab and a difficult road to recovery and fitness, Karim is now pursuing a place on the U.S. National Paralympic team in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
To support Muji, fans were able to purchase tickets for Saturday's game using the code "RIO," and a portion of each ticket sold will be donated his Running for Rio fundraiser hosted at CrowdRise.com. ($4 for each premium box seat ticket; $2 for each box seat ticket).
Fans may also donate directly at the CrowdRise page that has been set up to help with travel, lodging and miscellaneous expenses as Muji attempts to qualify at a sanctioned event and move on to the US Nationals.
