Altoona Curve News Release
ERIE, Pa - The Altoona Curve plated six runs in the sixth inning and rolled to a 6-3 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park.
The Curve (33-20) have won five straight games and are a perfect 8-0 against the SeaWolves (18-24) in 2015.
Trailing 2-0 heading to the sixth, Josh Bell clubbed a two-run homer off Erie starter Chad Green (Loss, 2-7) to tie the game. Three batters later, Eric Wood sliced a single down the right field line to plate Willy Garcia and give the Curve a 3-2 lead.
The Curve clubbed seven hits in the inning, the most in any single frame this season. Sebastian Valle and Gift Ngoepe each had RBI singles to pad the Altoona lead.
Curve starting pitcher Zack Dodson (Win, 3-2) worked six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
After a single by Dean Green to lead off the fourth inning, Dodson sat down the final nine batters he faced in order. Reliever John Kuchno (Save, 1) retired his first six batters as the two hurlers combined to shut down 15 straight batters from the fourth through eighth innings.
Max Moroff and Edward Salcedo each doubled and finished the game with two hits.
Austin Green gave Erie the initial 2-0 lead in the third inning. Tony Thomas added a solo homer in the ninth.
The Curve play the third of the four-game set on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park. Right-hander Chad Kuhl (4-1, 2.75) starts on the mound for Altoona, opposed by SeaWolves righty Tommy Collier (0-0, 1.38). First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
