Pittsburgh Acquires Garon For Sabourin, Stone

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired goaltender Mathieu Garon from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Ryan Stone, goaltender Dany Sabourin and a fourth round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, it was announced Saturday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Garon, 31, has appeared in 15 contests for Edmonton this season, posting a 6-8-0 record, a 3.17 goals against average and .895 save percentage. The 6-2, 192-pound native of Chandler, Quebec posted a 26-18-1 mark in 47 games with Edmonton last season, finishing with a .913 save percentage and a 2.66 goals-against average.

Garon has played parts of eight seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton. He recorded a career-high 31 wins during his 2005-06 season with the Kings and posted a career-best .940 save percentage in 2003-04 season with Montreal. Garon has registered a 91-82-3-10 record, along with a .904 save percentage and a 2.84 goals-against average in 199 career NHL contests. He was originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round, 44th overall, in the 1996 Entry Draft.

Sabourin posted a 6-8-2 record in 19 games with Pittsburgh this season, along with a .898 save percentage and a 2.85 goals-against average this season. The 6-4, 200-pound goaltender recorded career-highs in games played (24) and wins (10) last year.

The native of Val d'Or, Quebec has recorded an 18-25-5 record with a 2.88 goals against average and an .898 save percentage in 57 NHL games with Pittsburgh, Vancouver and Calgary.

Sabourin spent parts of two seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting a 38-22-6 record with a 2.25 goals against average and five shutouts in 69 games. He represented the Penguins at the 2006 AHL All-Star Game, was named to the league's postseason all-star team in 2005-06 and captured the Aldege 'Baz'Bastien and Harry 'Hap' Holmes Memorial Awards after posting a 30-14-4 record and a 2.26 goals against average in 49 games during 2005-06.

Stone appeared in eight career contests with Pittsburgh, posting one assist and seven penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round, 32nd overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft.

The Calgary, Alberta native spent parts of four seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording 136 points (41+95) and 377 penalty minutes in 219 games. He finishes his Penguins career ranked fifth all-time in assists, ninth all-time in points, ninth in penalty minutes and 14th in games played.
