Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators saw their three-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in a 3-1 defeat.
Bridgeport opened the night's scoring two-and-half minutes into the first period when defenseman Andrew MacDonald skated to the blue line from the right wing circle and slapped a marker beneath the right arm of Binghamton goaltender Martin Gerber.
The B-Sens, though, answered back during a power play at 9:17 when defenseman Matt Carkner wristed a shot through traffic from the left circle following a textbook pass from right wing Ryan Shannon, who was positioned at top post and took a feed from Ilya Zubov, who was set at the right wing circle. The shot marked Carkner's first power-play goal of the season and Shannon's team-high 21st assist.
Five minutes later, however, Bridgeport took over the lead for good when left wing Jesse Joenssu tapped in the game-winning goal behind the left side of Gerber after the Sound Tigers crashed the creased toward the right side of the net, drawing out the goaltender.
After a scoreless but penalty-filled second period, Sound Tiger left wing Trevor Smith notched Bridgeport's insurance goal just 1:33 seconds into the third period, knocking in a rebound top shelf off Junior Lessard's shot near the right wing circle.
Shannon extended his assist streak to three games (0+5). The B-Sens penalty kill unit was a perfect 7/7 on the night.
The B-Sens cap their season long eight-game home stand on Wednesday night when the Philadelphia Phantoms invade the Arena for a 7:05 p.m. face off. Good seats remain for this contest. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com, by calling ticket master at 722-7272, or at the Arena box office inside the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
