Iowa Chops News Release
A late 3rd period surge wasn't enough for the Iowa Chops (21-16-2-3, 47 pts.) as they dropped a close game to the first-place Milwaukee Admirals (27-10-2-2, 58 pts.) by a score of 2-1. Both teams started cautiously, but the first good chance went to the Chops as Ryan Dingle streaked in and got a shot off on Admirals goaltender Mark Dekanich, who made the save, but was run over by his own defenseman Scott Ford who leveled Dingle into the net. The hit knocked Dekanich out of the game and Drew MacIntyre stepped in between the pipes. After some big opening saves by Chops goalie JP Levasseur, the Admirals got the first goal of the game as Jed Ortmeyer parked himself in the high slot and one-timed a slapshot over the shoulder of Levasseur for a 1-0 lead for Milwaukee after the 1st period. Both teams struggled to create offense in the 2nd period as the hitting and neutral zone play picked up. Both goaltenders were strong, but another defensive zone breakdown for the Chops resulted in the 2nd Admirals goal of the night as Patric Hornqvist found defenseman Tim Ramholt who wristed a shot past Levasseur for a 2-0 Admirals lead with only :37 seconds remaining in the 2nd period. Milwaukee outshot the Chops 12-6 in the period. The 3rd period was a much more spirited one for the Iowa Chops, who struck early for their first goal of the game as Petteri Wirtanen tipped home a Brian Salcido shot from the point to bring the Chops to within 2-1. However, that would be all the Chops would get on this night as Milwaukee tightened the defensive screws. Late in the 3rd period the Chops had their best chance to tie the game as they got one last power play and pulled Levasseur for a 6 on 4 advantage, but couldn't covert as several shots and passes missed the mark as the clock wound down and struck zero giving the Admirals the narrow 2-1 win.
