Manitoba Moose News Release

It was a game for goaltenders at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio as the Manitoba Moose faced the Lake Erie Monsters. Jason Bacashihua allowed a single goal on 27 Manitoba shots, keeping his team in the game, while Curtis Sanford earned a shutout win stopping all 26 Lake Erie shots in his Moose debut. Michael Grabner scored his 19th goal of the season in the first period, which proved to be the game winner.

Barely a minute into the first period Jason Jaffray fired a wrist shot past Lake Erie goaltender Jason Bacashihua but off the crossbar, keeping the puck out of the net.

Just over nine minutes into the first period the Moose had their first man-advantage of the game as Mark McCutcheon was sent to the box for goaltender interference. On the same play Moose Captain Mike Keane and Lake Erie Monster Danick Bouchard were given two minutes each for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Monsters were able to subdue the Moose on the powerplay, allowing only a single shot for the Moose on the man-advantage.

Michael Grabner fired his 19th goal of the season over the glove of Lake Erie goaltender Jason Bacashihua at 17:25 into the period assisted by Mark Cullen and Michel Ouellet, proving to be the only goal scored of the period.

5:50 into the second period Zack FitzGerald was booked for tripping, giving the Lake Erie Monsters their first powerplay of the game. 57 seconds into the Moose penalty kill Alexandre Bolduc broke away shorthanded, as he was closing in on goal he was tripped from behind, giving him a penalty shot. Bolduc moved in deep on Bacashihua but was unable to get the puck past.

At 11:50 into the period Jason Jaffray was called for tripping as he took down Derek Peltier as he was flying through the neutral zone bringing Lake Erie's second powerplay of the game, which was neatly turned away by the Moose penalty killers.

Three minutes into the third period Moose defenceman Nolan Baumgartner's pass was intercepted in the neutral zone and on the resulting rush Baumgartner was called for slashing as he chopped Wes O'Neill's stick out of his hands. The Monsters came on hard for much of the third period, but could not solve Curtis Sanford as he made his stellar debut for the Moose earning a shutout.
