Pike Propels Clinton to Series Win

Appleton, WI - Tyler Pike was at his best once again, this time shutting down the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in a 3-1 victory for the Clinton LumberKings. With the win, Clinton took home the series two games to one.

Tyler Pike and Tyler Wagner squared off for their respective clubs, and they did not disappoint. Wagner, who came into today with three wins against Clinton, allowed just one run over 5 1/3 innings. Pike outperformed his counterpart with six scoreless innings, surrendering three hits while fanning five batters.

Clinton got on the board with in the fourth with a RBI groundout from Gaby Guerrero to score recent LumberKings' addition D.J. Peterson.

The LumberKings scored one run in each of the seventh and eighth innings to extend their lead. Tim Lopes plated a run on an RBI single from Ketel Marte in the seventh, and then Lopes delivered an RBI on a fielder's choice in the eighth.

Richard Vargas pitched two shutout innings in relief of Pike as Clinton took a 3-0 lead into the ninth inning. Oliver Garcia came on in the final frame, looking to complete the shutout. The reliever, however, allowed an RBI single from Chris McFarland after Tyler Roberts doubled to start the inning.

Garcia finished off the 3-1 victory for his first save of the season. Pike improved to 7-3 with the win, and he lowered his ERA to a staggering 2.14 mark in the process.

The LumberKings will return to Iowa for a three-game series with the first-place Cedar Rapids Kernels. Clinton turns to right-hander Charles Kaalekahi (4-2, 4.14) in the series opener against Kernels' right-hander Tim Atherton (5-3, 2.30). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.
