
Beloit Allows 21 Hits in Loss to Kane County

BELOIT, WI- A barrage of extra base hits propelled the Kane County Cougars over the Beloit Snappers by a score of 11-8 in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field on Thursday night with 892 in attendance.
The Snappers first loss of the home stand gives them a record of 62-40 (19-13 in the second half). The Cougars break off their two game losing streak to put their record at 38-59 (8-23 in the second half).
Kane County got on the scoreboard first with a pair of doubles from Jeimer Candelario and Rock Shoulders. The doubles were followed by singles from Marco Hernandez and Willson Contreras, which, in turn, were followed by a wild pitch, RBI fielder's choice by Reggie Golden, and an RBI single from Gioskar Amaya to make the score 4-0 in the top of the second inning. The Cougars picked up right where they left off in the second, tacking on two more runs after a single by Hernandez and Contreras' eighth home run of the year.
Beloit loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning and Daniel Robertson cashed in with a two-run double to left. Christopher Bostick then hit a three-run bomb, his thirteenth, to bring the early deficit down to one. The Snappers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a triple by Vertigan who then touched home on a single up the middle by Bostick (2-5, HR, 3 RBIs, run).
Kane County reopened the gap in the top of the fifth inning against Nolan Sanburn (0-3), when an RBI single by Golden put the Cougars back in the lead, 7-6. Shoulders sixteenth homer of the season in the seventh made the score 8-6.In the eighth, doubles by Albert Almora and Candelario made the score 9-6, and a sacrifice fly by Shoulders (3-5, HR, 3 RBIs, 3 runs) pushed the lead 10-6. A Contreras double off the third base bag scored one more to stretch the lead to 11-6.
Beloit loaded the bases in the ninth inning on with nobody out on a walk, an error, and a single. Nick Rickles lined a single to left to bring the score to 11-7. A John Wooten sacrifice fly brought the gap to 11-8, but Ryan Mathews struck out swinging to end the game. Justin Amlung (4-4) picked up the win for two innings in which he didn't allow an unearned run.
On Friday, the Snappers and Cougars will play the final game of the series, scheduled for a 7:00pm first pitch. Friday will feature Beloit's RHP Dakota Bacus (8-3, 3.86 ERA) and Kane County's RHP Felix Pena (3-3, 3.80 ERA). Beloit will host the Mobil Super Tour, which will bring family friendly events throughout the night. Mobil Super ambassadors will put on some on-field events during the ballgame such as the "Dizzy Dipstick Race" and a t-shirt gun used to shoot shirts to the fans. They also will be there to greet the fans as they enter the ballpark to hand out coupons and prizes.
