Clinton LumberKings News Release

Appleton, WI - The LumberKings got a brilliant pitching performance from Scott DeCecco and a pair of home runs to beat the Timber Rattlers, 5-1, at Time Warner Cable Field on Thursday night.

Clinton got on the board right away as Alfredo Morales doubled and Dario Pizzano singled to put runners at the corners in the first for D.J. Peterson. The third baseman delivered a fielder's choice to give Clinton a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin bounced back with a run of their own in the bottom half on Michael Reed's RBI double. That's all the T-'Rats would muster against DeCecco.

The southpaw settled in and tossed eight stellar innings. He limited the Timber Rattlers to just five hits. He struck out four, picked up his team-high eighth win of the year and his eight frames tied a career-high.

The LumberKings rallied for a pair of runs in the fourth inning. With two outs, Martin Peguero singled up the middle. The next batter, Ketel Marte hit a line drive to right-center and hustled into second with a double as Peguero raced around to give Clinton a 2-1 lead. Morales followed with a run-scoring base hit to make it 3-1.

Clinton played yard ball in the fifth against Wisconsin starter Eric Semmelhack. Peterson belted a booming home run off the scoreboard in left-center to start the inning. It was the first homer as a LumberKing for the 12th overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft.

Three batters later, Jordy Lara smashed a solo home run of his own. The towering blast was Lara's team-high ninth of the year.

It was more than enough offense for DeCecco who handed off to Jochi Ogando for the ninth. Wisconsin put two runners on with two outs, but Ogando struck out Max Walla to end the game.

The series continues Friday when the LumberKings send left-hander Tyler Pike (6-3, 2.27) to the mound against Wisconsin right-hander Tyler Wagner (8-7, 3.61). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CT.
