
Pigs Use 17-Hit Outburst to Top Chiefs, 10-2

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (8-6) used a 17-hit outburst to pick up a 10-2 win and complete the series sweep of the Syracuse Chiefs (6-8) on Thursday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.
The 10 runs and 17 hits are both season highs for the IronPigs.
Syracuse grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Trea Turner drew a leadoff walk issued by Pigs starter Adam Morgan, advanced to third on a single and scored on Scott Sizemore's sac fly.
Morgan (1-1) gave up two runs on five hits to go along with a walk and six strikeouts over seven innings of work. The win is the first for Morgan with the IronPigs since August 6, 2013 at Charlotte.
Morgan helped his own cause with a leadoff double in the top of the third with a leadoff double and came around to score on Darnell Sweeney's RBI single, which tied things at one apiece.
A three-run fourth gave the Pigs a 4-1 lead. Ryan Jackson came through with an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch charged to Chiefs starter A.J. Cole while Sweeney also knocked home a run in the frame via an RBI groundout.
The IronPigs broke the game open with a four-run fifth to extend the lead to 8-1. Tommy Joseph hit a solo shot, Jackson and Will Venable each knocked in runs with RBI doubles and Morgan provided a run with an RBI single in the frame. All four runs came with two outs.
Cole (1-1) was tagged for eight runs on 12 hits while walking one and fanning seven over 4.2 IP.
Syracuse cut the lead to 8-2 with a run in the sixth as Sizemore reached with a one-out double and scored on Jason Martinson's RBI double.
In the top of the eighth, Taylor Featherston plated a run via an RBI single and Nick Williams drove home a run with a sac fly to give Lehigh Valley a 10-2 lead.
Featherston's single extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
All nine members of the starting lineup had a hit for manager Dave Brundage's squad and six players had multi-hit games: Cedric Hunter (3-5, 2 R), Ryan Jackson (2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R), Joseph (2-5, 2B, HR, RBI, R), Morgan (2-3, 2B, RBI, R), Venable (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) and Williams (2-4, RBI).
Making his IronPigs debut, LHP Hoby Milner (2.0 IP, 5 K) tossed a pair of scoreless innings for the Pigs.
The Pigs will begin a three-game set with the Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday night at McCoy Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m. as RHP Zach Eflin (2-0, 0.64) gets the ball for Lehigh Valley against Pawtucket LHP Roenis Elias (0-1, 3.86).
