Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs have added three new players from Double-A Harrisburg in advance of Thursday's game - IF/OF Kevin Keyes, OF Isaac Ballou and RHP Abel De Los Santos. Keyes and Ballou rejoin the Chiefs after each playing with the team in 2015, while De Los Santos is set to make his Syracuse debut in 2016.
The moves correspond with the Nationals' release of IF Nate Freiman. In addition, OF Tony Campana and RHP Taylor Jordan have been placed on the Disabled List.
Keyes, a 27-year-old first baseman/corner outfielder from Austin, Texas, was a major part of the Chiefs' season in 2015. From his June 15th promotion on, the Chiefs posted a 46-32 record. Keyes began his Syracuse career sharply, receiving the International League Batter of the Week award for his first week with the team (12-26, 4 2B, BB). Overall, he hit .256 with eight home runs and 20 walks in 76 Chiefs games last season. This season, Keyes joins the Chiefs with a .317/.383/.585 slash line in 12 Harrisburg games (seven extra-base hits, five walks).
Ballou, a 26-year-old outfielder from Germantown, Maryland, put a charge into the Chiefs' final week last year. His walkoff single in the 10th inning in last season's 142nd game - just Ballou's third Triple-A start - gave the Chiefs a 10-inning win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He also scored the winning run after walking as a pinch-hitter and stealing second base in his first career Triple-A game at Lehigh Valley. Ballou sports a .268/.318/.415 slash line in 12 games with the Senators, with two doubles and two triples.
De Los Santos, a 23-year-old right-handed reliever from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, will make his Triple-A debut in his first Syracuse outing. He's surrendered just one run in six innings (five games) with the Senators this year, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out seven. Last season, De Los Santos posted a 3.43 ERA in 39 outings with the Senators, striking out 55 in 57 and two-thirds innings. He also pitched in two games for Washington, making his Major-League debut on July 21st vs. the Mets.
The Chiefs and Lehigh Valley IronPigs close out a home-and-home series Thursday at 1:05. Syracuse then begins a three-game set with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, led by former Yankees such as Nick Swisher and Rob Refsnyder. Tickets are available at syracusechiefs.com, by calling 474-7833 or in person at the NBT Bank Stadium ticket office.
