
Charlotte 49ers Standout Barnette Promoted to the Knights

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Charlotte 49ers standout Tyler Barnette, a native of Hickory, NC, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today from Double-A Birmingham. Barnette, 23, appeared in four games with the Barons this season and posted a 2.84 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. With today's move, Charlotte's active roster is now set at 25 players.
Drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Barnette appeared in three games for the Knights in 2014 and posted a 0-0 mark with a 9.53 ERA (5.2 IP, 10 H, 11 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO). Last season, the right-hander compiled a 5-4 record with a 2.38 ERA and one save in 29 games with the Barons (75.2 innings pitched). He also appeared in three games for Winston-Salem (High-A) last year and did not allow a run (4.0 IP).
In three seasons for the Charlotte 49ers, Barnette posted an 18-8 record with a 3.37 ERA (235.0 IP). In 2011, Barnette was named Atlantic-10 Freshman of the Year after tying for second in the Atlantic 10 with nine wins and finishing third with a 2.29 ERA after 90.1 innings pitched. In 2012, he was named to the Preseason All-Conference Second Team by College Madness.com.
The Charlotte Knights are set to open a two game series against the Gwinnett Braves (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) at 7:05 p.m. tonight from BB&T Ballpark. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and fans 21 and over can enjoy $3 domestic drafts as part of Thirsty Thursday ™ courtesy of Hickory Tavern. All fans can take advantage of small sodas for $1 tonight as well.
