Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (15-16) dropped their second straight to the Columbus Clippers (20-11) on Tuesday night, this one by a score of 7-1 at Huntington Park in Columbus.
The Pigs took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Taylor Featherston's solo shot off of Columbus starter Will Roberts. The home run was Featherston's (2-4, 2B, HR, RBI, R) third of the season.
In the bottom of the fourth, an error charged to Pigs 1B Tommy Joseph, a single and a two-out walk loaded the bases for the Clippers before Ronny Rodriguez's grand slam off of IronPigs starter Jake Thompson gave the hosts a 4-1 lead.
Thompson (1-4) gave up the four runs (none earned) on seven hits while walking one and fanning four in five innings of work.
Roberts (3-1) allowed one run on four hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in 7.0 IP.
Columbus extended the lead to 5-1 in the sixth with a solo shot from Guillermo Quiroz off of RHP Severino Gonzalez (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K).
A pair of runs in the seventh opened up a 7-1 lead for the Clippers as Jesus Aguilar knocked home a run with an RBI single and Robbie Grossman drove home a run via an RBI groundout.
RHP Luis Garcia (1.0 IP, K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
Nick Williams (2-3) also had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.
The series continues on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. as RHP Mark Appel (3-1, 3.00) heads to the mound for the Pigs against Columbus RHP Mike Clevinger (4-0, 3.03).
