Pigs Blanked by Tides in Finale, 6-0

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (42-32) managed just four hits in a 6-0 loss to the Norfolk Tides (27-47) in the series finale on Thursday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Tides starter Ariel Miranda (2-7) allowed just three hits while fanning five over six innings of work. RHP Richard Rodriguez (3.0 IP, H, 2 K) tossed the final three innings to notch his second save of the year.

Norfolk jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first as L.J. Hoes led off with a triple and scored on Dariel Alvarez's sac fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, Michael Almanzar led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Alvarez's sac fly to give the Tides a 2-0 lead.

Ozzie Martinez's grand slam off of Pigs starter James Russell in the bottom of the sixth opened up a 6-0 advantage for Norfolk.

Russell (2-3) gave up six runs on eight hits while walking a pair in 5.1 IP.

Making his IronPigs debut, RHP Phil Klein (1.2 IP, H, BB, K) had a scoreless outing in relief. LHP Mario Hollands (1.0 IP) also tossed a scoreless frame for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

The IronPigs will open a three-game set with Durham Bulls on Friday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (3-4, 4.77) gets the ball for the Pigs against Bulls LHP Adam Wilk (2-7, 3.70).
