Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders earned their IL-best 12th shutout with a 1-0 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens. The RailRiders have won 10 of their last 12 while the Mud Hens have lost 11 of 14.

TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS: SWB is the only IL squad with double-digit shutouts on the year and leads the loop with its 3.11 ERA. Tommy Phelps' hurlers also rank among the IL's best in: WHIP (2nd, 1.20), H/9 IP (1st, 7.9), K/9IP (2nd, 8.4), K:BB ratio (2nd, 2.90) and saves (T-3rd, 22). SWB is on pace to post 24 shutouts, which would shatter the franchise record of 15 set by the 2003 Red Barons. Last year's Rochester Red Wings logged 21 shutouts, the most by an IL squad since Tidewater's staff fired 21 shutouts in 1975.

VICTORY!: Chad Green (5-6) had lost three straight starts before tossing seven innings of scoreless, two-hit baseball to get the win on Wednesday. The former Detroit farmhand struck out nine last night and has 20 whiffs in 14 innings against Toledo. He ranks among the IL's best in ERA (2nd, 1.67), WHIP (3rd, 1.00) and batting average against (5th, .212). Eight of his last nine nods at Triple-A have been quality. A RailRider has hurled seven or more innings in a start 11 times on the season. Green and current New York Yankee Richard Bleier are the only RailRiders to turn the trick three times this season. Green's 76 total strikeouts tie him for fourth on the Yankees' farm with Chance Adams, who was recently promoted to Double-A Trenton.

MULLING IT OVER: Conor Mullee struck out two in a perfect ninth for his fifth save. He ranks among the IL's best relievers in batting average against (1st, .162), K/9 IP (2nd, 11.41) and fewest baserunners/9IP (1st, 7.79). He has allowed just two earned runs over his 32.1 IP with SWB for a 0.56 ERA and has not given up an earned tally since May 3 at Buffalo.

BAKER'S DOZEN: SWB stands a season-best 13 games over .500. The RailRiders own second place in the IL North, 1.0 game back of the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) who boast the IL's best record (44-29). SWB has a slim 1.0-game lead in the wild-card race over its closest geographic foe, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies). Each of the IL's three best records reside in the North Division.

SOL MAN: Donovan Solano posted a pair of hits including a double. A .259 bat after an 0-for-4 effort versus the Charlotte Knights on June 8, Solano has since gone 19-for-44 over 12 games, slashing .432/.468/.545/1.014 with seven RBIs and six runs scored. His two-week surge has lifted his average back up to .289, the best it has been since he ended play on May 30 at .289. He has handled lefties particularly well on the year, slashing .354/.391/.463/.855. Solano owns seven multi-hit performances over his last 11 games with an at-bat. Last night marked his fifth multi-hit showing against Toledo. He has gone 12-for-24 (.500) against the Mud Hens.

TEIX MESSAGE: Mark Teixeira continued his scheduled three-game rehab assignment with the RailRiders with a single and a walk as the DH for the game's entirety. He left the Tuesday's contest after his scheduled six innings. He is slated to play nine innings as the first baseman tonight. Including his MLB time, he had gone 0-for-16 since a double in his final at-bat at Toronto on May 31. That ended with a two-out single to left last night. The three-time AL All-Star and five-time Gold Glover hit the Yankees' 15-day DL on June 4. He is a career .270 hitter in 14 MLB seasons with 397 home runs.

HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: Earlier today, the IL announced the latest leaders in the online balloting for its All-Star team. SWB's Gary Sanchez leads all catchers and RailRiders populate multiple categories: Relief Pitcher, 4th Conor Mullee; DH, 5th Nick Swisher; Starting Pitcher, 5th Chad Green; Outfield, 8th Aaron Judge; and starter Brady Lail has received the most overall write-in votes. Online voting ends tomorrow.

OFF THE RAILS: With last night's win, the RailRiders secured their first set of consecutive series victories at home this season...The team has gone 5-3-4 through 12 home series...The 2015 unit won its last three home series and did not lose a set at PNC Field after dropping two of three versus Syracuse from July 7-9 in the final home series before the All-Star break.
