CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union took on New York City FC at home, Saturday night, falling 2-0. The first half started with an early goal by Jesus Medina in the fifth minute. Jose Martinez was sent off in the 16th minute, leaving the Union with 10 men for the remainder of the match. Valentin Castellanos capitalized on a defensive error in the 65th minute to secure the win for New York City FC. The Union are home at Subaru Park on May 4th where they continue their Concacaf Champions League run. They enter the second leg leading 3-0 on aggregate against Atlanta United (8:00 p.m. ET / FS1, TUDN).

TEAM NOTES

Homegrown Matt Real made his first start of the 2021 MLS season. Tonight's start against NYCFC made it his 10th start with the Boys in Blue and his first since October 3, 2020 at Toronto FC.

After getting the start against Atlanta United FC in the first leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League on Tuesday, Cory Burke made his first MLS start of the 2021 season. Burke's last MLS start with the Union came back on April 20, 2019.

Centerback Jakob Glesnes earned his 20th MLS start for the Union tonight.

Team captain Alejandro Bedoya made his 125th start for the Boys in Blue.

The Union are home at Subaru Park on May 4th where they will face Atlanta United in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions league quarterfinals (8:00 p.m. ET / FS1).
