Seattle Sounders FC News Release

Sounders FC (1-0-1, 4 points) returns home this Sunday to face Western Conference rival LA Galaxy (2-0-0, 6 points) at Lumen Field (6:00 p.m. PT / FS1, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). Seattle began the season with a 4-0 home win over Minnesota United on April 16 before a 1-1 road draw at Los Angeles FC on April 24. Sunday marks the second match at Lumen Field open to fans since March 7, 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Seattle hosted a limited capacity crowd of 7,042 against Minnesota due to health and safety limitations.

The Galaxy has opened its 2021 season with a pair of 3-2 wins over Inter Miami CF and the New York Red Bulls. Javier "Chicharito" Hernández leads MLS with five goals from his first two contests, including a hat trick last weekend against the Red Bulls.

The two sides have met 40 times across all competitions, in addition to being the two clubs that have earned the most regular season points in MLS since Seattle joined the league in 2009. The Galaxy lead the series 15-14-11 across all competitions, but the Rave Green have a current four-match unbeaten run (2-0-2), in addition to nine goals scored in the previous two meetings at Lumen Field.

Sunday also marks the debut of Sounders FC's new secondary jersey, The Jimi Hendrix Kit. Unveiled to overwhelming support in late March, the vibrant and original kit was designed to pay homage to legendary musical artist and Seattle native Jimi Hendrix, and quickly became both the fastest-selling jersey in club history and the fastest-selling kit in the history of MLSstore.com. Demand remains high, and fans wishing to purchase one of the special jerseys should visit the club's Pro Shop locations to take advantage of the limited quantity of kits still available.

FS1 and FOX Deportes are airing the match nationally, with regional radio coverage on 950 KJR AM (English) and El Rey 1360 AM (Spanish), as well as 16 international feeds across Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.

Brian Schmetzer's side hits the road next Sunday, May 9 to face Cascadia rival Portland Timbers at Providence Park (12:00 p.m. PT / ABC, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
