SIOUX FALLS- For the first time this season, the gusting winds died down and the balls started flying out of Sioux Falls Stadium.
Unfortunately, the Sioux Falls Pheasants could not match the Lincoln Saltdogs' power in a 20-5 loss Tuesday, snapping the Pheasants four game-winning streak.
The Saltdogs hit six home runs in the game, including a third-inning grand slam by Joe Ramos that gave Lincoln the lead for good. Robby Alcombrack hit two homers during the Saltdogs' 20-hit night.
Lincoln's John James (3-1) threw eight innings to collect the win despite giving up two home runs to Sing.
"It just got out of hand," Brandon Sing. "You can't worry about it. We could come out tomorrow and do the same to them. We're gonna be fine."
Sing was one of the few bright spots for the Pheasants. The first baseman hit two monster home runs over the left center wall to give him his 14th career multi-homer game. Sing finished the game with three extra-base hits and three RBI.
"I've been feeling good all season," said Sing, who is now hitting .367 with a league-leading nine home runs on the season.
Blake Gailen started Lincoln's offensive outburst with a leadoff homer off of starter Brad Stone. Stone rebounded by striking out the side to end the first inning.
The Pheasants tied the game on a wild play in the bottom of the second. Gus Milner scored on a routine steal of second base after two Lincoln throwing errors allowed him to advance.
Sioux Falls broke the tie in the third after Francisco Leandro's base hit scored Kevin Carby. Sing followed with a two-run shot to extend the Pheasants lead to 4-1.
Lincoln responded with a five-run fourth. After a bases-loaded walk to Robby Alcombrack, Ramos launched his first home run of the season to dead center, giving the Saltdogs a 6-4 lead.
Lincoln added six more in the fifth while sending 10 men to the plate. Alcombrack connected for a three-run home run off Stone. Dan McDaniel relieved Stone and gave up a two-run double to Gailen, increasing Lincoln's lead to 12-4.
"We didn't do a lot of things very well tonight," said manager Steve Shirley. "We didn't pitch very well and we didn't defend well."
Lincoln scored eight runs in the final three innings, including six in the ninth, to put the game out of reach. All nine Lincoln starters had hits in the game. The six home runs and 20 runs tied a Lincoln team record.
Stone (1-3) took the loss after giving up 11 runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
The Pheasants look to bounce back against Lincoln in game three of the series at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1. It is Ladies Night at Sioux Falls Stadium. Ladies of all ages can purchase a ticket for just $5.
